Gypsy Romp 3
January 12, 2018 –
Be swept away in an imaginative take on the folk idiom with Vanishing Shapes when they come to town during January 2018. Their music, which fuses old sounds of traditional music with modern influences, uniquely traverses from large cinematic soundscapes to quirky and twisted dance tunes all on acoustic instruments.
This style, endearingly dubbed “fairy music”, features flute, clarinet, guitar and double bass has found a home with the band performing in venues all over the east coast, festival stages and warehouse spaces of their local art and music scenes in Newcastle.
Gypsy Romp 3 at the Milk Factory!
Three of the greats in Australian flavoured folk fusion mix-it-up in Brisbane town for a Friday night fiesta not to be missed. A gypsy romp if you will!
The night features Greshka, Hello Tut Tut (VIC) and Vanishing Shapes (NSW) and will take you on an inter-continental, inter-dimensional journey with a focus on roots, rhythms, moods and movement.
Vanishing Shapes merge old and new aesthetics. Their modern influences (electronic dance, progressive rock and classical) shape their traditional folk sound into otherworldly expressions. The large cinematic soundscapes they create organically ebb and flow into and out of celebration and adventure.
Hello Tut Tut are fun, dynamic and daring when it comes to creating and performing original world music. Their sound is bright, dramatic and groovy. By tapping into their European roots they offer a fresh take on music of the Klezmer and Balkan traditions, blending in elements of contemporary dance music culture into their performances.
Greška take it all one step further by uniting feuding genres such as gypsy and classical; folk and metal; drum ‘n’ bass and funk. They will conclude the night with an onslaught of eclectic um-pahs and digga-digga-da-digga-digga-das.
